zIt's Too Easy To Pirate
This is ridiculous. I remember the first day I pirated. I had installed Limewire and it was so simple to search and download songs my sister was so amazed along with me. We told my dad and he said "Okay, as long as cops don't show up at my door it's fine". Worst response. I feel so guilty pirating now. I have pirated my whole life but now I feel guilty. I don't know the last time I asked someone "You pirate your songs?" and they answered "No, I buy them". People, even I would argue that the artists make money from concerts, but that's still not what they have worked for. They worked for these tens of thousands of sales you can see in the picture, which shows all of Thepiratebay's audio torrents sorted by downloads. I feel that the figures reported to these artists aren't anywhere close to the listeners they have. I can with confidence say that you can EASILY double the sales on iTunes. Not to mention that there are other legitimate sale sites which aren't factored into iTunes sales but are factored into Nielson SoundScan(the official tracker of sales to certify albums Gold, Platinum, etc.) (On a side note, the only album to hit at least 10x platinum since 1990 is 21 by Adele) I promised myself I would buy all the albums I pirated when I grow up but I didn't take action towards it. Two days ago I asked my dad to buy music, and he surprisingly said yes. I didn't even mention the fact that it is similar to theft in that you are obtaining something meant to have a price, for free. Although piracy doesn't remove the original, as in theft, no iTunes download removes an original so I believe piracy is equivalent to theft for the most part. Please ask your parents for extra money for music if need be. I spent alot of time telling myself that I pirate because I only get $20 a month which is barely two albums a month. My dad has allowed me upto twenty albums a year from his money, upon request. Please try. I find that music unlike other things doesn't discriminate. When you see a model, they never worked to look good, have a nice smile, and be moderately tall. A singer can look however and the only thing that matters is the effort they put into singing. WHEN YOU TRY YOU CAN SUCCEED(for some activities, must meet prerequisites, including but not limited to good height, good looks, and knowing the right people).
